Abaton Integrative Medicine (AIM) is a comprehensive medical clinic located in the heart of downtown Oakville. The clinic is owned and operated by two sisters: Dr. Denise Handscomb, ND and Dr. Stephanie Clegg, ND.
The word Abaton is rooted in Ancient Greek Mythology. Asclepius, the Greek God of Medicine, had a healing temple called Epidaurus with an area called the Abaton. Those who travelled far could seek shelter in the Abaton, waiting for Asclepius to visit them in a dream and guide them on their healing journey. Today, the rod of Asclepius, a serpent entwined rod, is used to symbolize medicine.
In Naturopathic Medicine we follow what is known as The Therapeutic Order. This means that the path to healing is not always direct, much like the journey to reach the temple of Asclepius was not. True healing requires multiple steps to reach the root cause and can be likened to peeling back the layers of an onion.
Growing up, the doctors experienced the benefits of integrative care and want to share their knowledge and experience with you and your family. Abaton has become a healing hub within the Oakville community; one where patients come to feel supported and heard. The aim of Abaton is to deliver a personal healing experience. This is achieved by working with other health care professionals to deliver a highly tailored, unique approach to health care for every patient.
